If you are a “Crystal Developer” and have designed Bar/Pie charts using chart expert, this tip might be helpful for you if you are facing the issue I was when working for a client who are on XI R2, exact details of version are provided below. Note that this could apply for some older versions and Crystal Reports 2008/2011 as well. Original issue however was found on the versions below.

• Crystal Reports Designer XI R2 – Product Version 11.0.0.1282
• Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 – Build Number 1263, Product Version 11.5.10.1263

There is simple Bar Chart where we want to customize the colors of the “Bar Chart” using the high resolution images which are “.wmf” (Metafiles Format). Note that the bar(s) or Pie(s) on chart will support only the Metafiles format (*.wmf). You should be able to convert .jpg or .png images to .wmf using third party image editing softwares.

Now, when you right click the bar on the chart and click Format series riser as below.

**This is the most important in order for report to reflect the image you chose as to act as bar. Without clicking this, the report will not “Show” the change and will have default colors on the chart.
